Blast! pulls together the run that made George and Louis Johnson unavoidable in the late seventies. Quincy Jones produced most of it, and you can hear what he brought: "Stomp!" is built on one of the tightest rhythm arrangements of the disco era, "Strawberry Letter 23" turns a Shuggie Otis song into something silkier than the original, and "Get The Funk Out Ma Face" is Louis' bass playing at its most physical. The first side leans on their later, glossier material, so the record works as a single arc from raw funk to polished soul.
A&M assembled this configuration for the Japanese market in 1982, catalogue AMP-25007, mastered at The Mastering Lab in Hollywood. Side two gathers the Quincy Jones-produced material, so the running order moves from their later studio work back into the singles that built their name.
