Bright Eyes - Letting Off The Happiness: A Companion - Opaque Gold Color Vinyl
When Bright Eyes moved their catalogue to Dead Oceans, Conor Oberst, Mike Mogis and Nathaniel Walcott revisited all nine studio albums and cut a companion EP for each one. This is the companion to Letting Off the Happiness, their 1998 second album, with six songs re-recorded decades after the fact.
The originals were teenage bedroom recordings, tape hiss and nerve. These versions are the same songs sung by someone who has lived with them, and the guest list turns them into duets: Katie Crutchfield of Waxahatchee takes "The City Has Sex" and "Contrast and Compare", M. Ward joins "Kathy With a K's Song", Phoebe Bridgers sings on the Elliott Smith cover "St. Ides Heaven", and Becky Stark appears on "June on the West Coast". Hearing the arrangements slow down and open up is the whole appeal.
Pressed as a 12 inch EP at 45 RPM on opaque gold vinyl, with a printed inner sleeve and a download included. One for anyone who wore out the first record.
