The Campfire Headphase, the third studio album from Scottish duo Michael Sandison and Marcus Eoin, arrived on Warp in 2005 and quietly shifted the Boards of Canada sound. The warped synths and tape hiss of Music Has the Right to Children and Geogaddi are still here, but this time guitars move to the front, treated and slowed until they feel like half-remembered film soundtracks from a summer that never quite happened.

The mood is warmer and more open than the unsettling Geogaddi, drifting from the sun-bleached swell of "Chromakey Dreamcoat" to the soaring "Dayvan Cowboy," whose video set the song to Joseph Kittinger's 1960 high-altitude parachute jump. "'84 Pontiac Dream" and the closing eight minutes of "Farewell Fire" show how much feeling the pair can pull from a few fading chords. It remains one of the most beloved records in electronic music for late nights and long drives.
