Lumineers - III - Vinyl Record 2LP
III, from 2019, is the Lumineers' third album and their most ambitious. It is a concept record in three chapters, each following a member of the fictional Sparks family across three generations: Gloria, her grandson Junior, and her son Jimmy. The band also made a companion film, with each song paired to a scene.
Wesley Schultz and Jeremiah Fraites wrote and recorded it in the Catskills with producer Simone Felice, and the mood is darker than anything they had done before. Lead single "Gloria" deals with addiction and the love that survives it, drawn from Schultz's own family history, while "Life in the City" and "Leader of the Landslide" carry the story with the band's trademark piano, acoustic guitar and chanted vocals.
This 2LP set gives the ten-song story three full sides and adds three bonus tracks on Side D: "Democracy," "Old Lady" and "Soundtrack Song."
