Hop Along - Get Disowned Vinyl Record
Get Disowned is the 2012 debut full-length from Philadelphia's Hop Along, the album that turned Frances Quinlan's songwriting project into a full band and earned them a fiercely devoted following. First released independently, it was reissued on vinyl by Saddle Creek in 2016 after the band signed to the label.
The songs pair ramshackle indie rock with folk and punk energy, all built around Quinlan's astonishing voice, which can move from a tender murmur to a ragged roar in seconds. "Tibetan Pop Stars" became a fan favorite and one of the most beloved songs in their catalog, "Some Grace" opens the record with a jolt, and "Sally II" and "Young And Happy!" show off the band's knack for vivid, offbeat storytelling. The closing title song ties it all together with real emotional weight.
Critics at Punknews.org and Sputnik Music both rated it 4.5 out of 5, and its reputation has only grown since. A must for anyone who loves Painted Shut or Bark Your Head Off, Dog.
