Iris Silver Mist is the new album by Norwegian artist Jenny Hval, named after a fragrance by Serge Lutens. The album embodies a perfume-like quality—mysterious yet vibrant.

Initially, it began not with music, but with its absence. During the pandemic, Hval faced a void, prompting her to explore perfume. She collected scents and immersed herself in their nuances. In time, she realized this pursuit was a way to find presence and fill the emptiness music had left. Upon returning to music, she infused it with the essence of scents.

Many tracks on Iris Silver Mist emerged as a mixtape, flowing seamlessly from one idea to the next. Before recording, they were performed as evolving pieces in the interdisciplinary work I want to be a Machine. This cohesive feel persists in the album, with one song blending into another. “It is about moving," Hval remarks, referring to an interconnectedness where sound, music, and fragrance intertwine.
