For this and other reasons, it is usually regarded the first of his fusion recordings. The album lineup includes Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Joe Zawinul, Tony Williams and the virtuoso guitarist and newcomer John McLaughlin, introduced to Davis by Williams only the night before the recording sessions.
