This collection of nine tracks - seven from the Can I Ride double 7-inch EP and two from the "Vibracobra" b/w "The Drill" 7-inch both released in 1990 and 1991 - demonstrate the power of Sonic Youth's odd tunings, the hardcore punk and proto-indie rock on SST Records, and R.E.M.'s fuzzy rock to influence a generation. Even in the early days, Superchunk's catchy rock sound was iconic of Chapel Hill. One thing is for sure: Polvo was something unique from the East Coast scene, often earning them the "math rock" label. But in the mid-Atlantic, from Richmond all the way to North Carolina, Louisville, and down to Atlanta, there was something in the air - like the challenge of making guitar rock sound completely fresh. It looks like even Mastodon are fans!
