New Shannon Lay Digital Release - Covers Vol. 1

Hey man, have you heard the news? Shannon Lay is releasing a brand new album of covers, and let me tell you, it's gonna be a doozy. Covers Vol. 1 is set to drop on April 14 via Sub Pop, and it's stacked with Shannon's unique takes on classic songs from some of the biggest names in music history.

Now, Shannon is no stranger to the world of covers. As she says herself, "I absolutely love doing covers." And with Covers Vol. 1, she's taken her passion for reimagining beloved tracks to the next level. The album is the first in a series of cover records that celebrate Shannon's obsession with "shannonizing" songs. Yeah, you heard that right - she's made it her mission to put her own spin on some of the most iconic songs in the history of music.

And let me tell you, the tracklist for Covers Vol. 1 is no joke. Shannon's tackled songs by some heavy hitters, including Ty Segall, the Velvet Underground, Arthur Russell, Vashti Bunyan, and more. But what's really got people talking is her cover of Elliott Smith's "Angeles," which comes complete with a hauntingly beautiful music video directed by Kai MacKnight.

Shannon's take on "Angeles" is a real tour de force. She manages to capture the essence of Smith's original while putting her own stamp on the song, imbuing it with her trademark ethereal vocals and dreamy guitar work. As she says herself, "It's such a joy to offer my perspective on songs I admire and spread the word about amazing artists."

Hopefully we will see a vinyl version of this and of course we will carry it here at IndieVinylDen.com.
