Toward the Terra (Japanese: 地球へ…, Terra e...) is a classic Japanese science fiction anime based on the manga by Keiko Takemiya. Originally serialized from 1977 to 1980, the story was adapted into a 1980 animated film and later a 24-episode TV anime series in 2007.
Set in a distant future where Earth has become uninhabitable, humanity lives under a strict computerized control system in space. The story follows Jomy Marcus Shin, a young man who discovers he is one of the "Mu"—a race of evolved humans with psychic powers who are hunted by the system. As Jomy rises to become their leader, the Mu struggle for survival and long to return to their ancestral home: Earth.
Toward the Terra explores powerful themes of identity, freedom, evolution, and the clash between individual will and authoritarian control. It remains highly regarded for its emotional storytelling, deep philosophical undertones, and striking visual style.
