In 2011, Chicago's Ratboys released their first collection, the Ratboy EP, with five indie-folk recordings available for free on Bandcamp and shared via social media. By 2021, they would be celebrating their 10-year anniversary, touring and playing songs from their debut to their 2020 album, Printer's Devil. However, the pandemic halted their touring just before their first headline tour. Despite this, they stayed active online through their Virtual Tour series, marking a decade as a band. During this time, they recorded Happy Birthday, Ratboy, a surprise album with 10 early songs and a new bonus track,
