Jackson's musical journey has seen him incorporate elements such as reggae in tracks like "One to One" and "Mad At You," as well as old jump blues and swing tunes in "Jumpin' Jive." His commercial success soared with the crafted pop songs "Steppin' Out" and "Breaking Us In Two," which climbed charts worldwide.

In 1984, he produced jazzier hits, including "Happy Ending" (a duet with Elaine Caswell), "Be My Number Two," and "You Can't Get What You Want." Jackson's unique live album, "Big World" (1986), featured entirely new material and was recorded during six concerts with minimal audience noise.

Continuing to evolve, Jackson's album "Blaze Of Glory" featured the pop song "Nineteen Forever" as part of a semi-autobiographical narrative. However, in 1991, he decided to abandon pop in favor of more serious music, resulting in tracks like "Stranger Than Fiction."
