Ali Farka Touré traveled the world, sharing his unique blend of West African "desert blues" music. Known as the "African John Lee Hooker," his bluesy style combined with gritty textures earned him Grammy awards and worldwide respect. Despite his passing in 2006, his musical legacy continues through his son Vieux, dubbed "the Hendrix of the Sahara," who paid tribute to his father on the album "Ali," a collaboration with Khruangbin. The album revisits some of Ali's most iconic work with new twists while maintaining its essence. Vieux says, "Music is magic, it is spontaneous, it is the energy between people." The album was created in 2021 during the pandemic, capturing a moment of peace amid the chaos. Khruangbin's reach, including fans such as Jay-Z and Paul McCartney, will bring Malian music to a new audience. "Ali" is not just a greatest hits album but a testament to love, friendship, and the magic of music, which drives it to unexpected places. In the end, it is all about love.
