Cure, The - The Head On The Door
The Cure Head On The Door vinyl gave them international aclaim when released in 1985.
As a followup to 1984's The Top, The Cure had released the single In Between Days before the album and that certainly helped the sales of The Head On The Door. This was also the first record where all the songs were written by lead singer Robert Smith. This was the record that started the rise into the superstar status the band hold to this day. Close To Me was another huge hit that sent this record up music charts for the first time Internationally. Robert Smith has said he was inspired by Kaleidoscope by Siouxsie and the Banshees and by the record Dare by the Human League. The Cure Head On The Door vinyl charted in the US, UK, France, Germany, The Netherlands, Switzerland, and Sweden. This is a classic 1980's record and is often covered by artists today and often is included on best of the decade lists released by critics. Pitchfork Media gives this record a very high 8.5 rating out of 10. Melody Maker named it their album of the year for 1985. The followup to this record was the vinyl record Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me in 1987.
