Bartees Strange grew up in an environment shaped by fear. His family used scary stories to impart valuable life lessons, and from a young age, Strange turned to horror films to build his resilience. For a young, queer Black person in rural America, the world can be an incredibly frightening place. His album, "Horror", reflects on confronting those fears and evolving into someone who commands respect and strength.
Throughout the record, Strange shares one brutal truth after another layered over a diverse soundscape inspired by the music he loved in his childhood. His father introduced him to legendary acts like Parliament Funkadelic, Fleetwood Mac, Teddy Pendergrass, and Neil Young. These influences blend with Strange's interests in hip-hop, country, indie rock, and house music, resulting in an entirely original work.

Keep away from the sun.
Never place it next to a Justin Bieber record.
Treat it like your grandma, you know if she was a record. Know what I mean? Tender care, don't talk back, and never interupt during Murder She Wrote. Wait - what the hell was I writing about-
