Released in 1993, the self titled debut is looser and funkier than Jane's, built on Perkins's tribal percussion and Farrell's unmistakable wail. Pets became an alternative radio staple with one of the most quotable choruses of the decade, and Cursed Female and Meija show the band could still summon real menace. The record captures Los Angeles in the immediate aftermath of the riots, and Farrell's writing is more direct about it than people remember.
