Im Jahr 2010 gründeten der aus Virginia stammende Jonathan Russell und der aus Kalifornien stammende Josiah Johnson in ihrer neuen Heimatstadt Seattle die Songwriting-Kernpartnerschaft von The Head und The Heart. Die Band wurde schnell durch Schlagzeuger Tyler Williams, Keyboarder Kenny Hensley, Sänger/Geiger Charity Rose Thielen und Bassist Chris Zasche vervollständigt. Ihr Debütalbum von 2011 auf Sub Pop wurde bis heute zu einer der meistverkauften Debüt-Veröffentlichungen des Labels. In wenigen Monaten entwickelten sich The Head und The Heart von Open-Mic-Nächten zum ausverkauften Fillmore in San Francisco, dem Paramount Theatre in Seattle, dem Terminal 5 in New York und mehr und bauten eine treue Fangemeinde im ganzen Land auf.
Das neue Album Let's Be Still ist eine Momentaufnahme einer Band, die vor knapp vier Jahren noch nicht existierte. Das Album wurde im Studio Litho in Seattle mit Unterstützung des früheren Produktionsmitarbeiters Shawn Simmons aufgenommen. Später durchquerte die Band das Land, um das Album in Bridgeport, CT, mit Peter Katis zu mischen, der für seine Arbeit mit Bands wie National, Interpol und Swell Season verehrt wurde.
